beates — Community Guidelines & How to Report a Problem

Version 1.0 — Effective September 9, 2026 Status: LIVE — published for launch. Not yet reviewed by a lawyer; see the Terms of Service for why.

This page explains, in plain language, what's and isn't okay on beates, and how to report something that isn't. It's written for you, not for lawyers — the legal version of these same rules lives in Sections 6 and 7 of our Terms of Service.

The short version

beates works because real people share real moments — Chats, Status, Status+, and Collab Studio duets. That only works if people feel safe here. Don't post or send anything you wouldn't want aimed at someone you care about.

What's not okay on beates

Collab Studio specifically

Because a Collab Studio post is created by two people together, both participants are expected to only submit footage they have the right to share, and both are responsible for making sure the finished post doesn't violate these guidelines — approving a duet is treated the same as posting it yourself.

How to report something

Right now, reporting works by emailing support@beates.app with:

  1. What you're reporting (a specific message, post, Status, or account),
  2. A screenshot or description that helps us find it, and
  3. Why it violates these guidelines.

You can also block any user directly from their profile or a chat, which immediately stops them from contacting you or seeing your content, without needing to report first. You can also report a post, a message thread, or a profile directly in the app: tap the ••• on a post, or Report on a person's contact page. Email remains available if you can't open the app.

If someone is in immediate danger

Contact your local emergency services first. Reporting to beates afterward can help us remove content and take action on the account, but we're not able to respond in real time the way emergency services can.

What happens after you report

We review reports and may, depending on severity: remove the specific content, warn the account, temporarily restrict it, or permanently ban it. We don't currently share the outcome of another user's report with you in-app, beyond confirming we received it — this is an area we intend to improve as beates grows. Repeat or severe violations result in a permanent ban without further warning.

Appeals

If your content was removed or your account was actioned and you believe it was a mistake, reply to the notice you received or email support@beates.app explaining why. We review appeals manually; there's no automated appeals system yet.

Copyright-specific reports

See Terms of Service Section 7 for the copyright takedown process specifically.

Changes to these Guidelines

We may update these Guidelines as beates grows and new situations come up. Material changes will be noted through the Service, the same way we handle changes to our Terms and Privacy Policy.
